The tourism minister of Goa has urged the state to adopt a ‘plus‑one economy’, encouraging visitors to extend their stay by adding an extra day of activities.

Goa’s tourism minister announced a new strategy aimed at increasing the average length of stay for visitors, describing it as a “plus‑one economy”. The proposal seeks to persuade tourists to add an extra day to their itinerary by offering additional experiences and incentives.

Under the plan, hotels, restaurants and local attractions would coordinate to create bundled packages that include a day‑long excursion, cultural event or adventure activity beyond the typical two‑ to three‑day visit. The minister emphasized that extending stays would boost revenue for small businesses and reduce the pressure of peak‑season crowding.

Officials said the initiative could be rolled out in the upcoming tourist season, with pilot programs in popular districts such as North Goa and South Goa. They expect that a modest increase in average stay duration could translate into higher per‑capita spending without requiring a surge in visitor numbers.

The proposal aligns with broader state efforts to diversify Goa’s tourism offering beyond beach‑centric holidays, aiming to showcase heritage sites, eco‑tourism and local cuisine as part of a more sustainable growth model.
