Goa authorities will soon roll out QR codes branded ‘Goa Fresh’ and ‘Goa Organic’ to allow consumers to track produce from the farm to the retail shelf.
Goa will soon introduce two new QR‑coded labels, ‘Goa Fresh’ and ‘Goa Organic’, on its agricultural produce. The initiative is aimed at giving consumers a clear view of the product’s journey from the farm to the market.
By scanning the code with a smartphone, buyers can access details such as the farm name, cultivation practices, and the date of harvest. The system is expected to curb adulteration and enhance food safety.
The state’s agriculture department will partner with local farmers’ cooperatives and logistics firms to affix the QR stickers on packaging before shipment. A central database will store the traceability data.
Industry experts say the move will boost consumer confidence, help farmers command premium prices for certified produce, and position Goa as a leader in transparent food supply chains.
