The Ministry of Home Affairs has cleared the installation of biometric e‑gates at Goa’s airports to streamline immigration checks.

The Ministry of Home Affairs has approved the installation of biometric e‑gates at Goa’s airports, a move aimed at speeding up immigration clearance for international passengers.

The decision follows a review of the current immigration process at Dabolim and other airports in Goa, where manual checks often lead to long queues. The e‑gates will use facial recognition and fingerprint scanning to verify travellers’ documents automatically.

Implementation is expected to begin in the next few months, with a phased rollout that will first cover the main terminal before expanding to secondary facilities. The government anticipates a reduction in processing time by up to 50%.

Officials say the upgrade will also enhance security by reducing the potential for human error and fraud in passport verification.
