Global education experts visit Haryana to assess NIPUN programme

International education leaders arrived in Haryana to evaluate the state's implementation of the NIPUN initiative aimed at improving foundational literacy and numeracy.
A delegation of education specialists from several countries landed in Haryana this week to examine the progress of the National Initiative for Proficiency in Reading (NIPUN). The team, comprising senior officials from UNESCO, the World Bank and other global bodies, will meet with the Haryana education department to review curriculum changes, teacher training modules and early‑grade assessment data.
Officials said the visit aims to identify best practices that can be scaled nationwide and to provide feedback on how the state can meet the central government's target of achieving Grade‑3 proficiency by 2025. The delegation will also observe classroom sessions in select government schools across the state.
Haryana’s education minister welcomed the experts, noting that the state has recorded steady improvements in reading and numeracy scores since the NIPUN rollout in 2022. The minister expressed hope that the international insights will help refine strategies and accelerate outcomes.
The visit is scheduled to last three days, after which a joint report is expected to be released, outlining recommendations for policy adjustments and resource allocation.
Stakeholders, including teachers’ unions and parent groups, have been invited to participate in discussion forums during the delegation’s stay, ensuring a broad-based perspective on the programme’s impact.
