Glaw Lake, situated in Arunachal Pradesh’s Upper Siang district, has been officially listed as India’s 101st Ramsar wetland, underscoring its ecological importance.
Recently, the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change announced that Glaw Lake has been added to the Ramsar List of Wetlands of International Importance.
The lake is located in the Upper Siang district of Arunachal Pradesh, surrounded by dense subtropical forest. It supports a rich diversity of flora and fauna, including several species of migratory birds that visit during the wet season.
Designation as a Ramsar site brings international recognition and a framework for sustainable management. It is expected to enhance conservation efforts and promote eco‑friendly tourism in the region.
The state government welcomed the announcement, noting that the status will help attract funding for habitat protection and raise awareness about the ecological value of the lake.
