GBA Audit Reveals 3,597 Unauthorised PGs in Bengaluru, High Court Orders Notices
An audit by the Grievance Redressal Authority (GBA) has identified that approximately 3,597 of the 5,480 paying guest accommodations in Bengaluru are operating in violation of regulations. Following a High Court directive, notices have been issued to these unauthorised establishments.
A recent audit report by the Grievance Redressal Authority (GBA) has revealed that a significant portion of paying guest (PG) accommodations in Bengaluru are operating without proper authorisation. Out of a total of 5,480 PGs registered in the city, the report indicates that approximately 3,597 have been found to be in violation of existing rules and regulations.
The findings highlight widespread non-compliance among PG operators, raising concerns about the safety and legal status of these residential facilities. The GBA’s investigation aimed to assess the regulatory adherence of these establishments, which house a large number of students and working professionals in the capital city.
In response to the audit findings, the High Court has issued directives regarding the handling of these unauthorised establishments. Consequently, official notices have been served to the identified PGs to address the violations and ensure compliance with municipal and state housing norms.
The move underscores the judiciary's role in enforcing regulatory standards for shared living spaces in Bengaluru. Authorities are expected to take further action based on the responses received from the PG operators in response to the issued notices.
