Gauhati High Court Grants Bail to Amritprabha Mahanta in Zubeen Garg Death Case
The Gauhati High Court has released accused Amritprabha Mahanta on a ₹50,000 bail bond, marking the first bail granted in the investigation into singer Zubeen Garg’s death.
The Gauhati High Court on Friday, October 9, 2026, granted bail to Amritprabha Mahanta, one of the accused in the case concerning the death of legendary Assamese singer Zubeen Garg.
Justice Pranjal Das ordered Mahanta’s release on a bail bond of ₹50,000, secured by two sureties, subject to completion of required legal formalities and compliance with the court’s conditions.
Mahanta is the first accused to receive bail from the High Court in this investigation, which stems from Garg’s death in Singapore on September 19, 2025.
The bail order does not constitute an acquittal, and criminal proceedings against the accused remain ongoing.
