Members of the Ganesh Utsav Samithi staged a protest at Hyderabad’s Tank Bund on Tuesday, demanding removal of newly erected barricades that they say hinder festival preparations.
On Tuesday, activists from the Ganesh Utsav Samithi gathered at Tank Bund in Hyderabad, raising objections to a set of barricades that had been installed along the promenade. The group argued that the structures impede the traditional route used for Ganesh Chaturthi processions and related cultural activities.
Local police were deployed to manage the crowd and prevent any escalation. Officials explained that the barricades were put in place as a precautionary measure to control the large number of devotees expected during the festival season.
The protest caused a temporary slowdown of vehicular traffic on the adjoining roads, though no injuries or arrests were reported. Organisers of the festival have called for a swift review of the barrier placement to ensure smooth conduct of the celebrations.
Authorities indicated that they would reassess the positioning of the barricades in consultation with the Samithi, aiming to balance public safety with the smooth flow of religious events.
