Gandak River level drops in Muzaffarpur, immediate flood threat recedes

The state disaster management authority in Bihar has been keeping a constant watch on the Gandak River after heavy rains and flooding in Nepal triggered alerts across the region. In Muzaffarpur, officials noted that the water discharge from the Valmikinagar Gandak barrage decreased during the night, leading to a fall in river levels. At Reva Ghat, the river’s water level is now recorded below the predefined danger threshold, easing immediate flood concerns. Nevertheless, officials warned that the next 48 hours remain critical and have deployed teams for continuous real‑time monitoring. Residents have been advised to stay alert, avoid low‑lying areas and follow any instructions issued by local authorities.
