Following a large water release from the Baraj reservoir in Nepal, the Gandak River in Vaishali, Bihar, has risen to 3 cm above the danger level and is climbing at about 0.5 cm per hour.

The Baraj reservoir in Nepal released a substantial volume of water early this week, prompting a rapid rise in the Gandak River downstream in Bihar's Vaishali district. Monitoring stations in Lalganj recorded the river level crossing the predefined danger mark by three centimetres.

Officials have issued a high alert as the water level continues to increase at an estimated rate of half a centimetre per hour. The surge has raised concerns among residents of riverside villages, who are being advised to stay vigilant and avoid low‑lying areas.

The state disaster management authority has deployed additional field teams to monitor the situation and is coordinating with local police to ensure timely evacuation if the level approaches critical thresholds. Flood‑prone zones are being cleared of movable property as a precaution.

Continuous updates are being provided through the district’s official channels, and the river’s flow will be closely watched until the water level stabilises below the danger line.
