A freight locomotive broke down between Anupur and Mahuri stations on Tuesday, leaving passenger services idle for about three hours.
On Tuesday, a freight train’s engine malfunctioned on the track linking Anupur and Mahuri stations in Madhya Pradesh, disrupting regular rail operations. The failure was reported shortly after the freight locomotive passed the Anupur junction, forcing railway controllers to halt all movements on the line.
The breakdown stranded several passenger services. The Shadhol‑Ambikapur MEMU, which reached Anupur at 1:50 pm, remained parked at the platform until about 5 pm. An express train scheduled to pass the same section was also stopped at Amlaai, awaiting clearance.
Railway officials dispatched a technical team to diagnose and repair the faulty engine. By early evening, the locomotive was towed to a nearby siding and the track cleared, allowing the delayed passenger trains to resume their journeys.
The incident highlighted the vulnerability of single‑track sections to mechanical failures, prompting the zone’s operations manager to assure commuters that preventive maintenance will be intensified to avoid similar disruptions in the future.
