Authorities in Rajasthan have registered an FIR after discovering multiple crop‑insurance policies on the same acreage in Kalusar village, leading to a fake claim of Rs 31.15 lakh.

Police in Shriganganagar district have opened an investigation after a farmer from Kalusar village attempted to cash a claim of Rs 31.15 lakh on crop insurance. The investigation revealed that several insurance policies had been issued for the same 10.37‑hectare plot, a clear violation of the scheme's rules.

The fraud was detected when the insurer's verification team found overlapping policy details for the same crop season. Officials said the duplicate policies were likely created to inflate the payout amount.

An FIR has been filed under sections relating to cheating and fraud, and the case is being handed over to the district's crime branch for further inquiry. The insurer has been instructed to withhold the payment until the matter is resolved.

If proven guilty, the accused could face imprisonment and a fine, while the incident highlights the need for tighter monitoring of agricultural insurance schemes in the state.
