During a checkpoint in Sultanpur Lodhi, four young men in a white Swift attempted to run over a senior police officer and other constables; the officer escaped and police later apprehended one of the suspects.
Sultanpur Lodhi police set up a routine checkpoint on a busy road in the town of Punjab. When vehicles approached, constables signaled drivers to stop for verification. Four young men driving a white Maruti Swift ignored the signal and accelerated towards the police formation.
According to the on‑scene report, the Swift, carrying the four youths, attempted to ram the senior police officer (SHO) and nearby constables, apparently aiming to crush them. The driver kept the vehicle at high speed, forcing the officers to jump clear to avoid serious injury.
The SHO managed to escape unharmed, while other police personnel pursued the vehicle. The chase ended when officers caught one of the four suspects near the checkpoint. The remaining three fled the scene and are currently being sought by the police.
Investigators have opened a criminal case for attempted murder and reckless endangerment. The police have appealed to the public for any information that could lead to the arrest of the remaining perpetrators.
