The Karnataka government has suspended four police officials for allegedly delaying the investigation of a gang rape and murder in Raichur.

The state government of Karnataka announced the suspension of four police officers after they were found to have delayed the probe into a high‑profile gang rape and murder that occurred in Raichur. The officials, who held senior positions in the district police hierarchy, were removed from duty pending a departmental inquiry.

The Raichur case, which involved multiple assailants and resulted in the death of the victim, sparked widespread outrage across the state. Families of the victim and local activists had repeatedly demanded swift action, alleging that the investigation was being stalled.

In a brief statement, the Karnataka Home Department said the suspension was a precautionary measure to ensure an impartial inquiry and to restore public confidence. The department added that the officers would be placed on leave until the internal probe concludes.

Human‑rights groups welcomed the move but urged the authorities to expedite the investigation and bring the perpetrators to justice without further delay.
