Four young men from Indore, attending a funeral, were swept into the fast‑rising Narmada River near a newly built railway bridge in Barda, Khargone, and were rescued by divers.
Four men who had travelled from Indore to attend a funeral gathered at the Barda Narmada ghats in Khargone district. While taking a dip in the river, the water level rose abruptly, pulling them toward the pillars of a newly constructed railway bridge.
Local divers, alerted by bystanders, reached the site quickly and managed to free the trapped youths from the fast‑moving current. The rescue team used rope lines and flotation devices to bring each person to safety on the riverbank.
Police officials arrived shortly after the incident, confirming that the sudden rise was due to an upstream release of water. They have urged the public to avoid bathing in the river during such unpredictable conditions and have ordered a safety check of the bridge area.
The rescued youths were examined by medical staff and released without serious injuries. Authorities continue to monitor water levels in the Narmada to prevent similar incidents.
