Four Elderly Patients Regain Vision After Cornea Transplants Using Three Post‑Mortem Donations in Sagar

Four senior patients at Bundelkhand Medical College in Sagar regained sight after receiving cornea transplants sourced from three post‑mortem donors.
The ophthalmology team at Bundelkhand Medical College, Sagar, successfully restored vision for four elderly patients by transplanting corneas obtained from three post‑mortem donors. The procedures were completed within the last fifteen days, marking a notable achievement for the institution.
Over the same period, six corneas were harvested from the three donors. Four of these were deemed suitable and were implanted in the senior recipients, while the remaining two were not used due to medical suitability criteria.
Hospital officials highlighted that the surgeries were performed under strict aseptic conditions and followed national guidelines for eye donation. The restored sight is expected to significantly improve the quality of life for the beneficiaries, many of whom had been living with severe visual impairment.
The success underscores the growing importance of eye donation programs in Madhya Pradesh, where awareness campaigns aim to increase donor registrations and reduce the backlog of patients awaiting corneal transplants.
