Former Telangana Director General of Police Anjani Kumar, now retired, addressed a media gathering in Hyderabad where he outlined the transformation of criminal activity in the city. He noted that traditional street crimes have given way to more sophisticated offenses that exploit digital platforms and organized networks.
Kumar pointed out a rise in cyber‑fraud, financial scams and targeted extortion schemes that differ markedly from the petty thefts and gang‑related violence of the past. He also observed that perpetrators are increasingly using technology to evade detection, making investigations more complex.
The former DGP emphasized the need for law‑enforcement agencies to upgrade their capabilities, adopt advanced analytics and strengthen inter‑agency coordination. He urged the state government to allocate resources for specialized training and modern equipment to keep pace with the evolving threat landscape.
