Former Naxal Sisters Tie Rakhis to Soldiers in Chhattisgarh as Peace Gesture

Chhattisgarh authorities reported that a small group of former Naxal activists, popularly referred to as "sisters," participated in a ceremonial event where they tied rakhis to serving soldiers and police officers. The gesture, traditionally a promise of protection, was presented as a public declaration of their renunciation of armed insurgency and a pledge to support the nation's security forces.

The ceremony took place at a government‑run community centre in an undisclosed location within the state, with senior officials from the army and the police present. Participants explained that the rakhi‑tying symbolises their desire to protect the nation and to foster trust between former insurgents and law‑enforcement agencies.

State officials welcomed the act, describing it as a constructive step towards lasting peace in the region, which has witnessed decades of Naxal‑related violence. They also indicated that similar outreach programmes are being planned to encourage more former militants to reintegrate into civilian life.

No injuries or security incidents were reported during the event, and the participants were escorted by security personnel throughout the ceremony.
