A former sarpanch was shot dead in Ludhiana as gunmen on a motorcycle opened fire, an incident recorded on a dash‑cam. Relatives say a long‑standing land dispute may have prompted the hiring of hired shooters.
Ludhiana police are investigating the killing of a former village sarpanch after he was shot multiple times by gunmen riding a motorcycle. The assailants opened fire indiscriminately, and the entire episode was captured on a dash‑cam installed in a nearby vehicle.
The victim’s family has disclosed that the murder appears linked to a protracted land dispute involving some of his own relatives, suggesting that the attackers may have been hired shooters.
Authorities have recovered the motorcycle used in the attack and are tracing the firearms used, while questioning several suspects identified through the video footage.
The case has heightened concerns over intra‑family feuds escalating into violent crimes in Punjab’s rural and semi‑urban areas.
