A former clerk of the Katihar DCLR office, Veerendra Kumar Sinha, was sentenced to three years of rigorous imprisonment and fined ₹12,000 by a Bhagalpur court for taking a ₹6,000 bribe in 2012.

The Bhagalpur court handed down a verdict against former Katihar DCLR clerk Veerendra Kumar Sinha on Tuesday, sentencing him to three years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of ₹12,000.

The case dates back to 2012, when Sinha allegedly accepted a bribe of ₹6,000 from an applicant seeking clearance from the DCLR office. Seventeen witnesses testified, corroborating the claim that the clerk had taken the money in exchange for processing the application.

The judgment underscores the judiciary’s commitment to curbing corruption in public service, and serves as a warning to other officials who might consider similar misconduct.
