The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has named former all‑rounder Ramesh Powar as a member of the men's senior team selection panel.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced that former Indian all‑rounder Ramesh Powar has been added to the men's senior team selection committee. Powar, who played for India in the early 2000s, will join the panel responsible for choosing players for upcoming international fixtures. The appointment comes as the board seeks to refresh its selection panel ahead of the next cricket season. BCCI officials said the new composition aims to blend experience with fresh perspectives to strengthen the national side.
Powar's inclusion is expected to bring his on‑field experience and understanding of the domestic circuit to the decision‑making process. The committee will evaluate performances in domestic tournaments and overseas leagues before finalising squads for Tests, ODIs and T20Is. No further details on the rest of the panel were disclosed in the statement.
The move has been welcomed by former teammates and cricket analysts who view Powar's cricketing background as an asset for talent identification. The BCCI will convene its first meeting with the updated panel later this month to discuss upcoming series and player selections.
