In a two‑day operation in Shujalpur, Madhya Pradesh, forest officials rescued 176 black deer using the Boma method, aided by South African experts, to prevent crop damage.

The Madhya Pradesh Forest Department launched a focused rescue drive in the Shujalpur area of Shajapur district, targeting black deer that were causing significant damage to agricultural fields. Over a period of two days, teams deployed the Boma technique – a non‑lethal enclosure method – to capture the animals safely.

South African wildlife specialists were brought in to train local staff and assist with the operation, ensuring that the capture process adhered to international best practices. The coordinated effort allowed officials to round up 176 black deer without injury.

All rescued deer have been transported to Kuno National Park, where they will be monitored and integrated into the park's existing wildlife population. The initiative is part of a broader strategy to balance wildlife conservation with the livelihood concerns of farmers in the region.
