A forensic science student allegedly murdered a woman by stabbing her 78 times inside a plastic‑lined Airbnb, claiming the act was inspired by the TV series Dexter.
Police investigators say a forensic science student entered a rented Airbnb property that had been lined with plastic sheets and attacked a woman, inflicting 78 stab wounds before fleeing the scene. The victim, whose identity has not been released, was found by the property’s owner after the student failed to vacate the premises as scheduled.
Authorities recovered the weapon, a large kitchen knife, and recovered forensic evidence linking the suspect to the crime. The student, identified in police statements as a local resident pursuing a degree in forensic studies, reportedly told friends that he was “inspired by the television series Dexter” and wanted to replicate the fictional killer’s method.
The case has been registered as murder, and the suspect is now the subject of a manhunt. Senior police officials emphasized that media portrayals of violence do not excuse real‑world crimes and urged the public to report any information that could lead to the arrest.
