Minister Lal Chand Kataraochak inspected the Jagroan grain market in Punjab and appealed to farmers to refrain from burning crop residue.

During a recent visit to the Jagroan grain market in Punjab, Food Supply Minister Lal Chand Kataraochak examined the functioning of the market and interacted with local traders and farmers. He highlighted the role of the market in ensuring timely procurement and distribution of wheat and other cereals.

The minister used the platform to address the persistent issue of straw burning after the harvest season. He urged farmers to adopt alternative residue‑management practices, emphasizing that burning contributes to severe air pollution and health hazards across the region.

Kataraochak assured that the ministry, in coordination with the state government, will facilitate access to equipment and subsidies for mulching, composting and other eco‑friendly methods. He called for collective responsibility to protect the environment while maintaining agricultural productivity.
