During a routine inspection, Madhya Pradesh food safety officials discovered about 66 kg of non‑vegetarian items without packing dates and evidence of cockroaches and rats in the kitchen of Sayaji Hotel, Indore.

The Madhya Pradesh Food Safety Department conducted an unannounced inspection at Sayaji Hotel, one of Indore's prominent hospitality establishments. Inspectors reported finding roughly 66 kilograms of non‑vegetarian food items that lacked any mandatory packing or expiry dates, a clear violation of the Food Safety and Standards Act.

In addition to the labeling breach, the inspection team observed visible signs of pest infestation, including live cockroaches and rodents, within the hotel's kitchen premises. Such conditions raise concerns about hygiene standards and potential health risks for guests.

Hotel management has been served a notice to rectify the violations, submit a compliance report, and undertake thorough pest control measures. The department may impose penalties if corrective actions are not completed within the stipulated timeframe.

The incident underscores the ongoing challenges faced by food service operators in adhering to strict safety regulations, especially in high‑traffic urban centers like Indore.
