The Madhya Pradesh Food Department seized and destroyed 222 kg of palm‑oil based Amanak sweets in Jhabua before Raksha Bandhan, also collecting samples from several shops.
In the days leading up to the Raksha Bandhan festival, officials of the Madhya Pradesh Food Department carried out a large‑scale operation in Jhabua, confiscating a bulk consignment of sweetmeats. The raid targeted 222 kilograms of Amanak sweets that were prepared using palm oil, a ingredient that raised safety concerns among regulators.
The seized sweets, valued at roughly 53,000 rupees per kilogram, were deemed non‑compliant with prevailing food‑safety norms. After verification, the department ordered the entire lot to be destroyed to prevent any distribution to consumers during the festive period.
During the operation, officers also collected samples from several local sweet shops to test for adulteration and other violations. The collected specimens will be sent to a state laboratory for detailed analysis, and any shop found violating standards could face further penalties.
