Dense fog spread across 20 districts of Uttar Pradesh on Dhanteras, pushing temperatures below 18°C and leading Indian Railways to cancel five passenger trains.
A thick blanket of fog settled over Uttar Pradesh on the Hindu festival of Dhanteras, affecting twenty districts and driving daytime temperatures down to under 18°C. Meteorological officials recorded the lowest readings in Hardoi, where the mercury dipped close to 16°C, while neighbouring districts also reported unusually chilly conditions for early November.
The sudden drop in visibility forced Indian Railways to suspend services on five scheduled trains passing through the affected zones. The cancelled services included two express and three passenger trains that were due to halt at major stations such as Lucknow, Kanpur and Bareilly. Passengers were advised to seek alternative transport and were offered refunds or rebooking options.
State authorities issued a weather advisory urging commuters to exercise caution while travelling, especially on roadways where reduced visibility can increase accident risk. The fog is expected to linger through the night, with forecasts suggesting a gradual clearing by the following morning as temperatures rise slightly.
