Billionaire Herbert Wertheim, a long‑time Apple shareholder, paid $40 million for the inaugural Ferrari Luce electric model at an RM Sotheby’s auction, with proceeds earmarked for the Ferrari Foundation.

Florida-based billionaire Herbert Wertheim, who has held Apple shares since its 1980 IPO, secured the first production Ferrari Luce electric vehicle at an RM Sotheby’s auction, paying a reported $40 million for the chassis known as Chassis Zero.

The Luce marks Ferrari’s entry into the electric‑vehicle market and was developed with design input from former Apple chief design officer Jony Ive, adding a high‑profile tech aesthetic to the luxury sports car.

All proceeds from the sale are slated to benefit the Ferrari Foundation, underscoring the charitable dimension of the transaction while highlighting the growing convergence of technology, luxury automotive design and philanthropy.
