Migratory flamingos have started arriving at Rajasthan’s Sambhar Lake with the onset of winter, but officials warn that below‑average rainfall could affect their habitat.

Winter has ushered in the first wave of migratory flamingos at Sambhar Lake in Rajasthan, marking the start of the seasonal influx of the iconic pink birds. The lake, located near Jaipur, is witnessing the birds' arrival as temperatures drop.

In addition to Sambhar, sightings have been reported at nearby water bodies such as Ratan Talab, Mundia Talab, Naliyasar and several smaller ponds, indicating a broader pattern of movement across the region.

Local wildlife officials have expressed concern that this year's lower-than-normal rainfall may reduce water levels, potentially limiting feeding grounds and nesting sites for the flamingos. Continuous monitoring is underway to assess the impact on the birds' habitat.

Authorities are urging conservation measures and urging the public to avoid disturbing the birds, hoping that adequate water management can mitigate the effects of the dry spell.
