Five women lost their lives after drowning in a reservoir in Andhra Pradesh, according to local authorities.
Local officials said that five women were found dead after they slipped into a reservoir in Andhra Pradesh early on Wednesday. The women were reportedly on a routine outing when they entered the water and were unable to get out.
Rescue teams were dispatched promptly, but the strong currents and low visibility hampered recovery efforts. Divers retrieved the bodies after several hours of searching.
Authorities have launched an inquiry to determine the exact cause of the incident and are urging the public to avoid unauthorized entry into water bodies, especially during monsoon season.
The district administration has announced compensation for the families of the deceased, as per state guidelines for accidental deaths.
The incident has sparked calls for better safety signage and barriers around reservoirs to prevent similar tragedies.
