The central government has moved five Central Armed Police Forces companies to the Assam-Meghalaya border as clashes between the two states intensify.

New Delhi has ordered the deployment of five companies of the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) along the disputed border between Assam and Meghalaya. The move comes after a series of confrontations between local communities of the two states over territorial claims and resource sharing.
The CAPF units, comprising personnel from various paramilitary battalions, are tasked with maintaining law and order, preventing escalation of violence, and facilitating dialogue between the state administrations. Officials said the deployment is a precautionary measure and will remain in place until the situation stabilises.
State officials from both Assam and Meghalaya have been urged to cooperate with the central forces and resolve the underlying issues through the established inter‑state mechanisms. No casualties have been reported so far, but local residents remain on high alert.
