Police in Jharkhand have booked five individuals for assaulting a Dalit woman and preventing her from drawing water from a village well. The incident highlights ongoing caste-based discrimination in accessing basic resources.

According to reports, the incident occurred in a rural area of Jharkhand where a Dalit woman was approached by a group of individuals while she attempted to fetch water from a community well. The accused allegedly assaulted her and obstructed her access to the water source.

Following the complaint, local police registered a case against five persons. They have been charged under relevant legal provisions pertaining to assault and atrocities against Scheduled Castes. The accused are currently in police custody awaiting further legal proceedings.

Authorities have emphasized that such acts violate both the law and the constitutional guarantee of equal access to public resources. The case has drawn attention to the persistent challenges faced by marginalized communities in securing basic amenities like safe drinking water.

Investigation is ongoing, and police have urged witnesses to come forward with any additional information. The administration has assured that strict action will be taken to prevent recurrence of such incidents.
