Shahdol police uncovered a counterfeit‑note printing gang, arresting five suspects and confiscating 1,803 fake notes worth Rs 8.71 lakh, along with a printer and a motorcycle.

The Khairaha police station in Shahdol, Madhya Pradesh, busted a group involved in printing and distributing counterfeit currency. During the operation, officers detained five individuals alleged to be part of the racket.

Investigators recovered 1,803 forged notes with a face value of approximately Rs 8.71 lakh. The seized material also included a printing machine used to produce the fake currency and a motorcycle believed to have been used for transporting the notes.

Police said the gang was operating in the local market, attempting to circulate the counterfeit notes among traders and shoppers. The seized items have been handed over to the forensic lab for further examination, and the accused will face charges under the Indian Penal Code and the Counterfeit Currency Act.

The swift action underscores the continued vigilance of law‑enforcement agencies in Madhya Pradesh against financial crimes that threaten the integrity of the monetary system.
