Fire in NICU warmer at Chhindwara district hospital burns three newborns

A spark in a neonatal warmer at Chhindwara district hospital ignited a fire around 2 a.m., burning three newborns who were later transferred to Jabalpur Medical College after initial care.
A fire broke out in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) of Chhindwara district hospital on the night of Friday into Saturday, shortly after 2 a.m. The blaze originated from a warmer machine after a sparking incident, according to hospital officials.
Three newborn infants placed inside the warmer were injured by the flames. Hospital staff provided immediate first‑aid, stabilising the babies before arranging further medical attention.
The three infants were subsequently referred to Jabalpur Medical College for advanced treatment. The hospital has launched an internal inquiry to determine the cause of the malfunction and to prevent similar incidents in the future.
