A blaze broke out in a two‑and‑a‑half‑storey fireworks warehouse in Fieldganj, Ludhiana on Friday, killing one person and causing loud explosions across the city.
A fire erupted on Friday afternoon in a two‑and‑a‑half‑storey building that housed a fireworks warehouse on Koocha No.10 in the densely populated Fieldganj area of Ludhiana, Punjab. The blaze quickly intensified, producing a series of loud detonations that were heard across the surrounding neighbourhood.
Emergency services arrived promptly and worked to contain the flames, but the explosion risk from stored pyrotechnics complicated rescue efforts. One individual was found dead at the scene, while other occupants were evacuated to safety.
Local authorities have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the fire and to assess compliance with safety regulations governing the storage of fireworks. The incident has left residents shaken, with many reporting that the sudden blasts rattled windows and doors throughout the city.
