A gas cylinder burst while cooking at the Royal Damayanti Palace in Damoh on Saturday, igniting a fire that burned three catering workers and claimed the life of 32‑year‑old Gaurav Kumar from Chhattisgarh.

Damoh, Madhya Pradesh – On Saturday afternoon, a gas cylinder used for cooking at the Royal Damayanti Palace malfunctioned, causing a sudden flare that set the kitchen ablaze. The fire quickly spread, engulfing three catering staff members who were on duty.

One of the workers, 32‑year‑old Gaurav Kumar, a resident of Chhattisgarh, suffered severe burns and was declared dead at the district hospital. The other two injured persons remain hospitalized and are receiving medical treatment for their injuries.

Local authorities arrived at the scene promptly, secured the area, and launched an investigation to determine the cause of the cylinder failure. The palace management has been advised to review safety protocols for gas handling and kitchen operations.
