The Finance Minister asserted that the burgeoning startup sector can generate economic output comparable to that of traditional industries, underscoring its growing role in India’s growth story.

New Delhi – In a statement reported by the Times of India, the Finance Minister highlighted the rising importance of India’s startup ecosystem, saying that these young companies are capable of delivering economic contributions on par with long‑standing industries.
The comment comes as the country’s entrepreneurial landscape expands, buoyed by supportive policies, increased venture capital activity and a growing pool of tech talent. While established sectors such as manufacturing and services have traditionally driven growth, the minister emphasized that startups are now emerging as a parallel engine of value creation.
Analysts note that this recognition could translate into further incentives, easier access to finance and regulatory reforms aimed at scaling innovative ventures. The government’s focus on nurturing high‑growth firms is expected to boost job creation and attract additional foreign investment.
If the startup sector continues on its current trajectory, its impact on GDP, exports and employment could become comparable to that of the nation’s core industries, reshaping India’s economic profile in the years ahead.
