A growing number of city‑based photographers are returning to analog film, drawn by its distinctive look and hands‑on process, according to The New Indian Express.
The New Indian Express reports a noticeable resurgence of film photography among urban photographers in India. Enthusiasts cite the medium's characteristic grain, colour rendition and the deliberate, slower workflow as key attractions. Workshops and meet‑ups in major cities have further fueled interest, allowing newcomers to learn handling, loading and developing techniques.
Photographers say the tactile experience of loading film and watching images emerge in a darkroom offers a creative discipline absent in digital shooting. Social media platforms showcase the aesthetic of film‑shot pictures, encouraging more artists to experiment with vintage lenses and classic camera bodies.
Industry observers note that local labs are seeing increased demand for film processing, prompting a modest revival of a once‑declining service sector. While digital remains dominant, the analog niche appears to be carving a sustainable space within India's vibrant photography community.
