The Federation of Indian Cycle (FICO) has appealed for assistance to enhance the competitiveness of the bicycle manufacturing sector in Ludhiana, Punjab.
Ludhiana, long recognised as a hub for bicycle production in northern India, contributes a significant share of the country's two‑wheeler output. The city's manufacturers range from small workshops to larger firms supplying both domestic and export markets.
The Federation of Indian Cycle (FICO) has formally requested cooperation from relevant stakeholders to make the Ludhiana bicycle industry more competitive. In a statement, the body highlighted the need for coordinated efforts to address challenges such as technology adoption, cost efficiency and market access.
FICO indicated that enhanced collaboration with government agencies, financial institutions and research organisations could help local producers upgrade equipment, improve design capabilities and meet evolving consumer demand. The appeal underscores the broader goal of sustaining Ludhiana's position in the national bicycle supply chain.
Industry observers note that timely support could prevent erosion of market share to rival manufacturing centres and bolster employment in the region. The federation plans to engage with policy makers in the coming weeks to outline specific assistance measures.
