Female Candidates Yet to Win DUSU Presidency Since 2008

Since 2008, no woman has been elected president of Delhi University's Student Union, even though ABVP and NSUI have periodically fielded female candidates.
Delhi University's Student Union (DUSU) elections have long been a barometer of campus politics, drawing candidates from the major student wings of national parties. The presidency, a coveted position, has historically alternated between the ABVP and NSUI factions.
The last time a woman held the DUSU president's office was in 2008. In every election cycle since then, both ABVP and NSUI have at times nominated female candidates, but none have succeeded in securing the top post. Official results from the university’s election commission confirm the uninterrupted male streak over the past fifteen years.
Analysts note that while parties continue to offer tickets to women, the voting patterns among the student electorate have not translated into a victory.
