The Food and Drug Administration in Akola seized a 1,900‑kilogram consignment of khowa that had been transported from Gujarat, citing lack of proper licensing.
Akola officials of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) have seized a massive consignment of khowa weighing approximately 1,900 kilograms that arrived from Gujarat. The seizure took place during a routine inspection of a storage facility handling dairy products.
According to the FDA, the khowa was being moved without the mandatory food‑safety licences and documentation required under Indian law. Authorities said the unlicensed transfer could jeopardise consumer health and breach food‑safety regulations.
The entire stock has been detained while the department probes the source, the supply chain and any possible violations. No arrests have been reported so far, and the FDA has not disclosed whether the product will be destroyed or returned to the sender.
The incident underscores the agency's heightened vigilance against illegal food movements across state borders, especially for high‑value dairy items that are prone to adulteration.
Further updates will be provided as the investigation progresses.
