Punjab police have filed a case against a father and his son in Jalandhar for allegedly cheating a victim of ₹11 lakh by promising illegal migration to Canada.

Police in Jalandhar say a father and his son lured a resident with the promise of facilitating migration to Canada and collected a total of ₹11 lakh from the victim. The accused allegedly assured the complainant that the money would cover processing fees, travel expenses and legal formalities, but no legitimate documentation or travel arrangements were ever made.

The fraud came to light after the victim approached authorities, reporting that the promised migration services had not materialised despite full payment. Investigators recovered evidence of multiple transactions and recorded statements indicating that the duo operated a small-scale scam targeting aspirants seeking overseas opportunities.

Based on the evidence, the police registered a criminal case under sections relating to cheating and fraud, and the father‑son pair were taken into custody for further questioning. The investigation remains ongoing to determine whether additional victims were involved.

Authorities have warned the public to exercise caution when dealing with unregistered agents offering overseas migration services and to verify the credentials of any such facilitator before making payments.
