Farmers have warned they will block the Ambala‑Chandigarh highway if the ongoing electricity problem is not fixed, according to a union statement.
A farmers' union has announced that it will obstruct traffic on the Ambala‑Chandigarh highway should the persistent electricity supply problem in the region remain unresolved. The threat was made public in a statement issued to local media, emphasizing that the lack of reliable power is affecting agricultural operations and livelihoods.
The union said that the protest would be organized as a last resort after repeated appeals to authorities for remedial action have been ignored. It called on the state electricity board and local administration to expedite repairs and restore stable supply to farming areas along the corridor.
If the farmers proceed with the blockade, the 30‑kilometre stretch connecting Ambala in Haryana with the Union Territory of Chandigarh could face significant disruption, impacting commuters and commercial traffic alike. Officials have not yet responded publicly to the union's warning.
