Farmers' Group KMSS Accuses Authorities of Man‑Made Floods in Upper Assam

The Kamat Mahasangh Samiti (KMSS) has alleged that the recent flooding in Upper Assam was caused by human activities, demanding an investigation into the matter.
Upper Assam witnessed severe flooding last week, affecting several villages along the Brahmaputra tributaries. The deluge, which began on 12 September, has displaced thousands of residents and damaged agricultural land.
Kamat Mahasangh Samiti (KMSS), a prominent farmers' association in the region, has claimed that the floods were not natural but the result of deliberate water diversion and dam operations. The group alleges that authorities failed to maintain proper drainage and that construction projects upstream have altered water flow.
In a statement released on 15 September, KMSS demanded a formal inquiry into the flood’s origins and called for immediate relief measures for affected farmers. No official response has yet been issued by the Assam state government or the central Ministry of Water Resources.
