Authorities in Bihar say an individual posing as a CID Deputy Superintendent of Police duped victims of millions of rupees.

Bihar police have opened an investigation after a man impersonated a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) from the Crime Investigation Department (CID) and allegedly swindled several individuals of multi‑million rupee sums. The fraudster reportedly used his false credentials to gain the confidence of victims, promising assistance in legal or financial matters before extracting money.

According to preliminary reports, the impostor approached victims through phone calls and messaging apps, presenting forged identification and official‑sounding documents. He allegedly demanded advance payments to resolve alleged disputes, secure loans, or obtain government clearances, leading victims to part with large amounts of cash.

Law enforcement agencies are now tracking the suspect’s digital footprints and have appealed to the public to remain vigilant against similar scams. Officials warned that genuine CID officers never request money upfront and urged anyone approached with such offers to verify identities through official channels.
