A fraudster posing as a fast‑darshan agent duped about 37 pilgrims from Gujarat at the Omkareshwar Jyotirlinga, taking ₹25,900, and police have launched an investigation.
A group of roughly 37 pilgrims from Gujarat visiting the Omkareshwar Jyotirlinga in Madhya Pradesh were approached by an individual claiming to arrange early darshan for a fee. The person, described as a fake agent, promised the devotees a quicker entry to the sacred shrine.
According to local reports, each pilgrim was asked to pay a sum that totaled ₹25,900. The money was collected on the premise of securing a privileged viewing slot, but the promised service was never delivered, leaving the devotees financially cheated.
Police in the Khanda district have opened a case against the alleged fraudster and are conducting inquiries to trace the suspect. Authorities have assured that strict legal action will be taken once the perpetrator is identified, and they have urged other pilgrims to report similar incidents.
The incident highlights the vulnerability of pilgrims to scams that exploit religious sentiments, especially during peak visitation periods at major temples such as Omkareshwar.
