Former Sikkim chief minister Pawan Chamling has publicly condemned the police’s handling of a protest by the CJP, expressing support for the students’ demands.

The protest organized by the CJP in Sikkim drew a large crowd of students and activists demanding reforms in local governance.

During the demonstration, police deployed tear gas and batons to disperse the crowd, a move that sparked widespread criticism.

Former chief minister Pawan Chamling condemned the police’s aggressive tactics, calling the action “unacceptable” and urging authorities to respect the right to peaceful protest.

Chamling also voiced his backing for the students’ demands, stating that the issues raised by the protestors deserve serious consideration by the state government.
