On Raksha Bandhan, Gujarat’s Emergency Management and Research Institute (EMRI) recorded 6,091 emergency calls, keeping its ambulances and staff fully occupied throughout the day.
EMRI, a leading emergency response agency in India, said its Gujarat operations logged 6,091 emergency incidents on the Hindu festival of Raksha Bandhan. The surge in calls came as families travelled and gathered to celebrate the brother‑sister bond.
The organisation dispatched ambulances to a range of situations, from road accidents to sudden medical crises, coordinating efforts from its state control centre. Staff worked round the clock to reach patients across urban and rural areas.
Officials noted that the high call volume is typical during festivals when traffic and crowds increase, and they urged the public to reserve emergency numbers for genuine crises. No major incidents beyond routine emergencies were reported.
