The fire service number 101 has been discontinued in six Indian cities, with the all‑purpose emergency number 112 now the single contact for police, fire and ambulance services.

The dedicated fire‑service emergency number 101 has been withdrawn in six Indian cities. Residents of those cities are now instructed to use the pan‑India emergency helpline 112 for any fire‑related assistance.

The change consolidates police, fire and medical emergency calls under a single number, aiming to simplify access and improve coordination among response agencies. Call centres handling 112 have been upgraded to route fire incidents to the appropriate fire stations while maintaining the same response standards.

Authorities have issued public advisories through local media and official channels, urging citizens to update their emergency contact lists. The transition is expected to be completed within the coming weeks, with continuous monitoring to ensure no disruption in fire‑service availability.
