A 22-year-old electrician was badly burned when an 11kV line became live despite a shutdown order in Alwar, Rajasthan. His family is now seeking compensation from the electricity department.

Alwar, Rajasthan – On a scheduled power shutdown, a 22-year-old electrician was working on a street light mounted on an electricity pole when the 11kV line unexpectedly became energized. The sudden surge of electricity caused the worker to suffer severe burns as he was thrown from the pole.

The incident occurred despite the shutdown order, indicating a lapse in safety protocols. Emergency services were called to the scene, and the injured electrician was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment of his burns.

Family members of the victim have approached the state electricity department demanding compensation, citing negligence in ensuring the line remained de‑energized during maintenance work.

Authorities have not yet released a detailed investigation report, but the case highlights the risks faced by line workers and the need for stricter adherence to shutdown procedures.

The department has promised to review safety measures to prevent similar accidents in the future.
